Rationale: Project One - Experience Enrichment

The Hug Mug

My target market is aimed towards the elderly whom are currently in aged care centres.
These people are usually fathers and/or mothers to those whom do not have time to
care for them. Looking at this situation, i realise that many families are forced to do
this therefore causing loose relationships between each other. In response to this situation,
i decided to design and develop a product that tries to bring each person close together.

The mug's design was influenced by the verb "HUG" in which for the elderly
appreciate very much as it brings a warm feeling inside them.
In this case the mug has be designed so that you have to "hug" the
mug where the slight indentations are therefore providing a 'hugging' sensation.
As the elderly's abilities are slowly getting weakened, the mug has a larger diameter
and also a larger depth inside the mug to provide more stability to the user.
The whole design is an organic type where it is all rounded and smooth
with no sharp edges. With also an added design where depending on the heat
of the mug, it would changed from blue (cold) to red (hot).

As this would be used in nursing homes/aged care centre, its design and function
would be spiritually enhancing, such that it provides a warm, enriching experience when
used in the centre.

I like the idea of the hug mug and the colour changes as the temperature changes which sorta just add a little more to the idea than just a mug. Interesting that you chose the elderly for your target market. I think the design would suitable for much younger target market as well with a larger choice in colours and improved texture of the mug. Ergonomically perhaps the mug could be better shaped in the way the palm would hug the mug better since the most elderly have arthritis on the fingers and to hold anything using them is difficult. But overall it's an innovative design =}

i like you designed the mug that can changing color, which bring the pleasure time to elderly people,so that they dont feel lonely, and you also considered the weak ability of elderly people,by making a improvement of mug with larger diameter. however i think it would be better to add a handle on it,which help them to hold the mug well, and im not quite sure, how do you achieved your aim that "bring each person close together".

Great work, this product defiantly suits your target market, I like the idea of hugging the mug and changing colours for different temperatures, yet work could be don’t on the ergonomic so that it fit the target markets hand, seeing elderly people are weak and many have problems with holding objects.

I love the idea that the mug changes colour as it is a fascinating and distracting to its user however i am not sure how it supports relationships between family members. Also its cylindrical shape maybe become hard for an elderly person to grip as they become weaker, and no handle may confuse the elderly of today as they have regularly been brought up with mugs having handles.
I love the idea but think it maybe more appreciated by children
