Task 4: Bad Design

The product i have chosen has a very confusing design, in which at first glance you may think its a trap but you must look closely and think about how its going to work.

The product i have chosen is a one-way spike speed hump.

It consists of a usual speed hump but a triangular spikes coming out of it. The way it works is that once you travel over the speed hump, you are not able to go backwards as it gives you the impression (or may) that it would burst your tyres.







This is the actual speed hump, although when looked from a driver's point of view it looks very intimidating...

The problem with this is that from the driver's point of view, coming onto the speed hump, it looks like you're not mean't to enter this area as if its telling you that you've went the wrong way. This confuses people as it gives the wrong impression towards users.

The way to go around this problem is to redesign the spikes so that it doesn't appear so sharp. A more slanted spike would overcome this.

As above the redesigned spike has a much more slanted look therefore causing the user to realise it is only a one way speed hump rather than a no entry speed hump. This solution is the way to stop confusing users when using the hump.
